AUBURN - Frank Wojtcuk, 87, of Auburn, formerly of Jewett City, Conn., passed from the embrace of his family into the hands of the Lord on July 2, 2010, at Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn. Frank had moved from Connecticut to Clover Living Center in Auburn in May 2006. Frank was born in Norwich, Conn., on July 28, 1922, the son of Gertrude and Joseph Wojtcuk. His parents had emigrated from Poland, to seek a better life in the United States. They raised nine children in their home in Jewett City. Frank attended local schools and then served with the U.S. Air Force, stationed in Bertonwood, England, during World War II. It was during his service in England when he met Sybil Garner of Astley, England, who was soon to become his wife. They were married in 1944 in England. The next year, Sybil came to the States with their infant daughter, Jennifer, where Frank was waiting for them at the close of the war. Sybil and Frank and their daughter made their home on East Main Street, Jewett City, Conn. Frank was a daily communicant of St. Mary Church until his move to Maine with his wife in May 2006. Frank worked at Amstar Corp. as an offset printing supervisor until his retirement. He then worked with his nephew, John Dudek, in John's extermination business, and also spent many happy hours working in the Jewett City floral shop. Frank was very active in his church and community. He served as Grand Knight with the McCabe Council of the Knights of Columbus and then as the Faithful Navigator with the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree. Frank shared his love of the outdoors with his many friends at the Snake Meadow Club where he was a lifetime member. He was also a member of the Pachaug Outdoor Club and a strong supporter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Jewett City. He was also a talented woodworker and gardener. Frank lived an active life in Jewett City where he and his wife enjoyed their home, travel with their grandchildren, and the activities at the Griswold Senior Center. When his grandchildren were born in Maine, Frank was a frequent, doting grandfather visiting and spending quality time with them. An avid hunter and fisherman, Frank shared all of his interests with his grandchildren. Most of all, his grandchildren, Jason and Suzanne, were the love and pride of his life. Frank was predeceased by his wife, Sybil, and two brothers, Stanley Wojtcuk and John Wojtcuk; three sisters, Janet Wagner, Cecilia Bednarz and Alice D'Andria, passed away in the last year. Frank is survived by two brothers, Felix Winters of Hampton, Conn., and Albert Wojtcuk of Taftville, Conn., and two sisters, Vina Dudek of Florida and Nancy Wildowski of Brooklyn, Conn.; Frank's daughter, Jennifer W. Baack and her husband, Kevin C. Baack, reside in Readfield; grandson Jason and his wife, Vicki Hastings Baack, reside in Frankfort; his granddaughter Suzanne, and her husband Charles 'Rusty' Dyke and his great-grandchildren, Corey and Erin Dyke make their home in Winthrop. Relatives and friends may visit at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, Maine, Tuesday, 4 to 6 p.m. A memorial Mass will be held in Connecticut at a time and date to be announced.
