Obituary

READFIELD - Frederick E. Mitchell, 78, of Main Street died Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at Maine Veterans' Home in Augusta. He was born in Paget, Bermuda, on Jan. 17, 1932, the son of Frederick and Mildred (Wheeler) Mitchell. Frederick graduated in 1950 from Brunswick High School, where he was a member of the swim team. He later served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Fred worked at First National grocery stores for 23 years and for Shaw's for another 20 years, retiring in August 1995. Frederick had a passion for airplanes. He enjoyed making model airplanes and attending air shows. He had the ability and knowledge to identify the type of airplane by just listening to its engine. He was also a self-taught woodworker. He cleared the land and built the home they currently live in. Fred enjoyed hunting, fishing and dancing. He was a 30-year member of the Squire Town Squares and was an excellent storyteller. He is survived by his wife, Georgette Mitchell, of Readfield; a son, Scott P. Mitchell, of Bellrose, N.Y.; a daughter, Lynn Marie Mosher and her husband, John, of Castine; three grandchildren, Janine Mosher, Erin Mosher and Julijana Mitchell; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visiting will be held from 6-8 p.m. Monday, July 12, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. A graveside service will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, at Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta. Send condolences to the family at www.khrfuneralhomes.com.
