FARMINGDALE - Gene E. Lockyer, 89, of Almar Street died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, at Maine Veterans' Home. She was born in Berlin, N.H., on Sept. 4, 1920, the daughter of Scott and Merlyn (Viles) Lockyer. Gene had worked as a medical technologist at the Veterans Administration Hospital at Togus. She served in the Navy during World War II as a WAVE, and was a member of the WAVES National and the Maine Unit 41. She was also a member of the D.A.R Mary Kelton Dummer-Patience Stanley Chapter, the Augusta Nature Club, Water-Oak Gem and Mineral Club, the Abnaki Ski and Outing Club, Arnold Expedition Historical Society, Dead River Association Historical Society and the Goodrich-Caldwell American Legion Post, Hallowell. Gene did volunteer work at the veterans' hospital and for Meals on Wheels. She was a longtime member of the YMCA, where she swam and exercised almost daily. She is survived by many cousins and close friends. There will be no services at this time. A graveside committal will be held in the spring at Upper Eustis Cemetery, Eustis.
