MOUNT VERNON ? George Fred 'Butch' Pettengill, 58, died Sunday morning, June 15, 2003, at his home on Route 41 in Mount Vernon. He was born in Mount Vernon on July 24, 1944, the son of Clarence and Gladys (Randall) Pettengill. Butch enjoyed yard work and gardening around his house, and his favorite hobbies included hunting, fishing and clamming. He loved his dogs, Boots and Susie; but most of all, he was a kindhearted and loving father and grandfather who would make himself available for anyone in need of a helping hand. He will be deeply missed by his family and those closest to him. Butch was predeceased by his parents; one son, Timmy Pettengill; and one brother, Clarence Pettengill. He is survived by three sons, James Pettengill of Honolulu, Hawaii, Billie Pettengill and his wife, Tammy, of Litchfield, and George Pettengill of Greene; three daughters, Linda Pettengill of Thorndike, Debbie Pettengill of Monmouth and Diane Smith and her husband, Jeff, of Wayne; four brothers, Herbert, Ernest and Alfred Pettengill, all of Winthrop, and Arthur Pettengill of Wayne; five sisters, Elizabeth Williams of North Monmouth, Permeria Ridley of Wilton, Mildred Dyer of Winthrop, Dorothy Blake of Poland and Susie Crystal of Idaho; 12 grandchildren, Gina Pettengill, Theresa, Michael and Becky Owens, Abby Davey, Samantha Tzikas, Heather and Shannon Bryant, Trina Pettengill, Meghan Smith, and Brandy and Taylor Pettengill; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to visit 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. A graveside service will be held at noon Thursday at Glenside Cemetery, Turkey Lane, Winthrop, with Hugh LeMaster officiating. The family wishes memorial contributions to help with funeral expenses be sent to Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop 04364.
