AUGUSTA - Gordon Wylie Atkinson, 74, of Augusta, died Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, after a short residence at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation-Glenridge. Mr. Atkinson was born Feb. 25, 1936, in Concord, N.H., the son of Wylie T. and Mildred (Osgood) Atkinson. He attended Somerville, Massachusetts Public Schools and the University of Maine. He had been a resident of Maine since 1975. He worked as a mechanical engineer for many years, was a gifted graphic artist and inventor of innovative devices. Gordon is survived by a sister, Joyce E. Moulis, and her husband, John, of Augusta; two sons, Darryl Atkinson, of North Carolina, and Damon Atkinson, of Georgia; a special friend and companion, Jean M. Koller, of Augusta; and several grandchildren, nieces and a nephew. Mr. Atkinson's family is grateful for the compassionate care of Dr. Gene Cheng and his staff and the nursing care professionals at the Alzheimer's Care Center and Glenridge.
