Obituary

WINTHROP - Henry Edward Diamond, 77, of Winthrop passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, at the home of his son on Saturday, April 25, 2009, after a brief illness. Hank was born in Winthrop on March 27, 1932, the son of David and Catherine (Cressey) Diamond. He was a 1950 graduate of Winthrop High School and was attending the University of Maine when he entered the Army in 1953. He served during the Korean War and was part of the early nuclear weapons testing. Hank married Ann Tucker on May 1, 1954, in Winthrop. When he returned from the service, he attended the University of Southern Maine and started to work for Central Maine Power Co. His career with CMP spanned 37 years and included service in Augusta and later at the Lewiston Hydro-electric plant at Gulf Island Station. Hank's hobbies included cross-country skiing, coin collecting, bicycling, photography, travel, dining out, electronics, house plants, music and movies. Henry spent the last two months battling cancer while staying at the home of his son Robert in Wayne. He greatly appreciated the special attention he got from Robert, Roxanne and Sarah. He also looked forward to the visits from the nurses from Health Reach Hospice and Nerd the cat, who moved into his room. Frequent visits from family members also brightened his days, and his visit from Rev. Don Hegeman was greatly appreciated by Henry and his family. Mr. Diamond was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Robert Diamond; and a sister, Helen Tibbetts. He is survived by his sons, David Diamond of Gardiner, Christopher Diamond and his wife, Charlene, of Turner, and Robert Diamond and his fiancee, Roxanne Rousseau, of Wayne; his daughters, Bonnie Diamond and her fiance, Bruce Lindemann, of Winthrop, Deborah Morgan and her husband, David, of Litchfield, and Patricia Breton and her husband, Francis, of Fayette; his grandchildren, Israel Breton and his wife, Amy, Adam Breton, Aaron Breton and his girlfriend, Kelly, Amanda Morgan, Ryan Morgan, Jonathan Lucas, Katie Morrow and her husband, Brandon, and Sarah Pelletier; a great-granddaughter, Abriella Breton; and one on the way. Relatives and friends may visit 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will follow at Monmouth Ridge Cemetery.
