AUGUSTA - Henry Cook Waters Jr. born 86 years ago in Winchester, Mass., passed away Nov. 23, 2010, at the Togus Veteran's Hospital in Augusta. Henry was born Nov. 4, 1924, in Winchester, the son of Henry C. and Constance (Dow) Waters. He had a distinguished Army military career serving during World War II and was captured and imprisoned in the Battle of the Bulge in the waning months of the war in 1944. He escaped from the POW camp and was subsequently recaptured by liberating Russian forces and held until his identity could be established. After the war, he finished college at Norwich University and completed his masters at Boston University. He joined General Electric in the management training program and went on to handle sales for international operations until leaving the company to run his own business for years, until he retired to Maine. He was an Army Reserve officer retiring with the rank of captain. He is survived by his wife, Patricia, and her son, Raymond O'Regan, and Caroline Rodriquez; a son, Henry Cook Waters III; and a daughter, Constance D. Waters, from a previous marriage. He will be missed by family and friends and his Veteran comrades at Togus. Friends may visit 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, May 14, at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church St., Augusta.
