J. Turco Obituary (2006) - Augusta, Maine

Wayne - J. Peter Turco, 65, originally from Narragansett, RI, died suddenly at his home in Wayne, ME, where he had resided for the past six years, on Sunday, November 5, 2006. Peter was born on December 25th in South Kingstown, RI, the son of Dr. Salvatore J.P. Turco and Miriam (Adair) Turco. Peter was raised in Narragansett, son of recognized physician Dr. S.J.P. Turco, attending local grade schools, graduating high school in 1960 from Cranwell Prep in Lenox, MA. After high school Peter attended the University of Rhode Island in Kingston, RI and Babson Midwest Institute in Eureka, KS. Peter spent his early adult years living and working in Washington, DC and New York City, NY and married Joyce in 1966 returning to Narragansett to own and operate Davis Liquor. Peter joined Wine Marketing in 1990 and eventually retired from Portland Beverage in 2001. Peter and Joyce renovated and operated a bed and breakfast the Carey House in Wayne, ME. Renovating the Carey House, Peter developed his construction skills and inspired his passion for building and carpentry. Peter was a loved husband, father and friend, never judgmental and always offering to lend a helping hand. He was quick with a joke, loved a laugh and enjoyed his family, friends and life completely. One of the greatest pleasures of his life which he looked forward to each & every year for the past 25 yrs. or so was his annual ?canoe & camping? trip to the woods of Maine with his good buddies ?The Machias River Rats?! Peter is survived by his wife of 40 years, Joyce (Wolfe) and their two sons David of Charlestown, RI and Matthew of Providence, RI and Herman (man?s best friend), his sister Adair (Turco) Campbell, grandchildren David, Jessica and Jaxon Turco, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 on Saturday, Nov. 11, at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, Point Judith Road, Narragansett, RI with Father John Waterson celebrant. Committal prayers and interment will follow at St. Francis Cemetery in Peace Dale, Rhode Island. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of J. Peter Turco to the Office of Development, c/o Smoking Cessation, South County Hospital, 100 Kenyon Ave., Wakefield, RI 02879.
