AUGUSTA - James M. Dalbeck, 83, passed away March 22, 2008, at MaineGeneral Medical Center after suffering a stroke at home. Jim was born April, 1924, in Bridgewater, son of the late Leland S. and the late Ruby A. (McDonald) Dalbeck. He and his family moved to the Augusta area in 1938. Jim served in the Army as a member of the 406th Infantry Ozark Division in Germany during World War II, and the Korean War, and proudly served his country. He was married in 1947 to Doris E. (McAllister) Dalbeck, and they happily celebrated their 60th anniversary together last year. He was a devoted family man and loved spending time with wife, son and daughter and their respective families. He was a member of South Parish Congregational Church, serving on the board of trustees and as a deacon. As a retired mechanic from Central Maine Power, he enjoyed his retirement years tinkering in the garage and spending winters in Florida. Jim was very involved in the Masons, Shrine and Eastern Star. Jim loved working with kids and was a dad adviser to the DeMolay boys and Rainbow girls with his children. He was a 32nd-degree Mason, past district deputy Grand Master of the 11th Masonic District, a member of the CMP degree team, Scottish Rite, Rose of Sharon OES, and a former member of Kora Temple. Jim and his family were honored in 1985 as the Scottish Rite Masonic family of the year. He is survived by his wife, Doris; his son, James S. Dalbeck and his wife, Jennifer, of Farmingdale; and his daughter, Brenda Dalbeck and her partner, Lynn Walkiewicz, of West Gardiner. He also is survived by his brothers, John Dalbeck and Elmer Dalbeck; his sister, Leona Russell; and many family members. He also leaves behind three very special people, Jo-Ellen, Nathan and Kristin Scott. His family wishes to thank the staff at Maine Veterans' Home for his short rehab stay last year, and the nursing staff on the first floor at MaineGeneral Medical Center who were so kind and gentle to Jim and the family. A memorial service, including a Masonic service, will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, at South Parish Congregational Church, 9 Church St., Augusta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kennebec Valley Humane Society, 10 Pet Haven Lane, Augusta; or South Parish Congregational Church.
