Donahue
Aug 7, 1941 — Feb 27, 2004
WINTHROP - Joanne Leslie Donahue, 62, of Metcalf Road died Friday, Feb. 27, 2004, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Lake Charles, La., on Aug. 7, 1941, the daughter of Clyde and Annie (Adams) Griffith. Joanne was employed by Longfellow's Greenhouse for four years before going to work for Shaw's supermarket. Being the kind, friendly person she was, Joanne thoroughly enjoyed her experiences of meeting and talking with the customers at both jobs, especially during her five years at Shaw's; but she was forced to retire early because of her illness. She and her husband, Doug, enjoyed 36 wonderful years together. Whether she was mowing the lawn, gardening or taking part in numerous other activities, Joanne liked being outdoors. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who, above all, loved spending time with her family, whether it be cooking out, fishing or just being together. She was predeceased by her father, Clyde Griffith. Joanne is survived by her mother, Annie Griffith, of Augusta; her husband, Douglas E. Donahue, of Winthrop; three sons, Douglas M. Donahue of Winthrop, Dale Simonds of Randolph and David Simonds of Bowdoin; two daughters, Kimberly Daigle of Winthrop and Annie Griffith of Augusta; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her dog and loving companion, Buddy. Relatives and friends are invited to visit 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. A graveside service will be held in the spring at Glenside Cemetery, Turkey Lane, Winthrop.
