WINTHROP - John Francis Higgins, 80, of Winthrop died Monday, April 5, 2004, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta. John was born in Whitman, Mass., on June 6, 1923, the son of Alfonce and Agnes (Belanger) Higgins. He grew up in Massachusetts and spent his working life as a carpenter. He worked for several different contractors and was self-employed for a time. Mr. Higgins had vacationed in Maine over the years, so when he retired, he and his wife, Bernice, moved to Winthrop in 1984. John enjoyed gardening and, in his younger days, enjoyed fishing. He is survived by his wife, Bernice (Ferguson) Higgins; two daughters, Elizabeth Cisstaro of Cape Cod and Carol Louise Crowley and her husband, J. Robert, of Bridgewater, Mass.; a brother, Robert Higgins, of Cherryfield; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. There will be no services at this time. Memorial donations may be made to the Kennebec Valley Humane Society, 10 Pet Haven Lane, Augusta 04330. Arrangements are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop.
