WINTHROP ? Josephine A. Berube, 95, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 2003, at Nicholson's Longterm Care and Rehabilitation Center, where she had been a resident for the past six months. Josephine was born in St.-Fran?ois-Montmagny, Quebec, Sept. 11, 1907, the daughter of Edouard and Catherine (Dumas) Lecomte. She was one of six children. She and her family migrated to Nashua, N.H., where she lived until 1992. She married Alphee Berube in Nashua on July 2, 1928. At the age of 84, she decided to move to Maine to be closer to her son and his family. She worked for the J.F. McElwain shoe company in Nashua, retiring as supervisor. She was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne in Nashua. She enjoyed playing cards and bingo. Josephine will be remembered for the help and kindness she and her husband extended to their siblings and their families during floods, hurricanes, fires and other emergencies. They were always welcome in her home. She was predeceased by her husband in 1979, and a son, Raymond Berube in 1989. She is survived by a son, Maurice A. Berube and his wife, Rejeanne, of Winthrop; daughters-in-law Jacqueline Berube and Claudette Berube, both of Nashua; eight grandchildren, Louise Rochette of Woodbridge, Va., Roger Berube of Fairlee, Vt., Michael Berube of Readfield, Diane Harwood of Winthrop, Lisa Carey of Standish, Marc Berube of Bedford, N.H., Richard Berube of Londonderry, N.H., and Denise Berube of Nashua; and 11 great-grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visiting hours are 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, at Rochette & Son Funeral Home, 21 Kinsley St., Nashua. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Holy Enfant Jesus Church in Nashua. Burial will follow in St. Louis Cemetery, Nashua. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Maine Right to Life, 8 Green St., Augusta 04330.
