Augusta - Josephine R. Wheelock, 72, of Wilson Street, died unexpectedly on Thursday December 14, 2006 at Maine Medical Center in Portland. She was born in Hallowell on July 8, 1934 the daughter of Ralph and May (Blanchard) Hopper. Josephine graduated from Cony High School in 1954, and has been a homemaker for most of her life. She taught Sunday School at Dirigere Christian Academy, and at the First United Pentecostal Church in Augusta, where she was a member. She enjoyed arts and crafts but especially enjoyed being with her family. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband Willis F. Wheelock Sr. of Augusta. This Christmas Eve, they would have celebrated 51 years of marriage together. She is also survived by a daughter Darlene A. Staples of Augusta; 3 sons, Willis F. Wheelock Jr., Roger E. Wheelock and Robert L. Wheelock, all of Augusta.; 4 brothers, Ralph Hopper and Richard Hopper both of Florida, Jack Hopper of Waterville and Larry Hopper of Augusta; 2 sisters, Elsie Whitten and Lorraine Flagg, both of Hallowell; 8 grandchildren, Rocky E. Wheelock, Nicholas J. Wheelock, Timothy B. Staples II, Justin P. Staples, Jarid C. Wheelock, Andrew W. Wheelock, Rebecca L. Staples and Amanda L. Wheelock; 3 great-grandchildren Gage B. Staples, Cameron D. Wheelock and Alexxis Wheelock; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, December 19 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Service, One Church St., Augusta. A funeral service will be held at 11:30am on Wednesday December 20, at the First United Pentecostal Church, Augusta, with Pastor Rick Stoops officiating. Burial will follow in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
