Obituary

Augusta - Joyce A. MacKenzie, 72, of King Street, died peacefully on Sunday August 26, 2007 at Heritage Manor in Winthrop, with her family by her side. She was born in Augusta on November 21, 1934 the daughter of Ray and Barbara (Damren) Gilman. Joyce graduated from Cony High School in 1951. She had worked for the State of Maine, Department of Defense and Veterans Services for 33 years, retiring as Executive Secretary to the Adjutant General. She played the piano, collected recipes and enjoyed doing cross stitch and knitting. Joyce loved spending time with her grandchildren and being out at the family camp on Three Mile Pond in Vassalboro. She was a member of the Kennebec Mennonite Church. She had a strong faith and a will to live, overcoming many obstacles and illnesses throughout her life. She was predeceased by her husband Percy MacKenzie and a son Richard MacKenzie. She is survived by a son Kevin M. MacKenzie and his wife Kim of Augusta; 2 daughters Patricia Dushuttle and her husband Jay of Augusta, Rebecca M. MacKenzie and her fianc? William Picher of Augusta; 2 brothers Leroy Gilman of Augusta and William Gilman of Oakland; her grandchildren Valerie and Benjamin MacKenzie, Adam and Jacob Dushuttle, Tara Smith, Laureen MacKenzie, Natalie and Charlie Hallak and Duncan Picher; also several nieces, nephews and cousins. Visiting will be held Tuesday from 6-8 PM at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home and Cremation Service, One Church St., Augusta where a funeral service will be held Wednesday at 1:00. Glenn Metzler, Pastor of the Kennebec Mennonite Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the American Diabetes Association, 163 Lancaster St., Portland 04101.
