MONMOUTH -- Kathleen Angelia Olive Besson, 71, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2003, at Oddfellows Nursing Home in Auburn. She was born in Mount Vernon on Aug. 4, 1932, the daughter of Alton and Meldora (Bernard) Rathy. Kathy attended Winthrop High School and had worked at George the Tailor in Winthrop and also as a school crossing guard. She married Charles Besson in 1975. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, Winthrop, and its ladies' auxiliary. She enjoyed playing beano, gardening and spending time at the coast. She was predeceased by a son, Shawn Ruman, in 1994. She is survived by her husband, Charles Besson; her mother, Meldora Thompkins of Belgrade; a son, Stephen Ruman and his wife, Dori Lynn, of Greene; her daughters, Sherry Ruman and her companion, Marcel Roy, of Winthrop, and Jackie Herrin and her husband, Andrew, of Vienna. She is also survived by two stepsons, Richard Besson and his wife, Gail, of Fairfield, and Paul Besson and his wife, Nancy, of Litchfield; a cousin, Elizabeth King of Winthrop; a grandson, Jason Ruman; and stepgrandchildren Paul, Nick and Jamie Besson. Visiting will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Francis Xavier Church, Winthrop, with the Rev. Brian Blanchette, celebrant. Burial will follow in Glenside Cemetery, Winthrop.
