AUGUSTA ? Kathryn Eudell Lothridge, 74, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2002, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta. She was born in Freeport, March 17, 1928, the daughter of John and Flora (Miller) Varney. A graduate of Freeport High School, Kay went on to obtain her bachelor's degree with honors from the University of Maine, Orono. She married Alvin Lothridge on May 10, 1952, and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past May. She taught first grade at Windsor School for 18 years, until her retirement. An avid sports fan, Kay especially liked watching basketball and rooting for the Boston Celtics. For 25 years, she and Alvin enjoyed many trips to their camp at Brownville Junction, where they and oftentimes their family would spend their time fishing and playing poker and other card games. In her later years, she was content with spending most of her time surrounded by her loving family, watching sporting events on television and doing crossword puzzles. Her family and those closest to her will dearly miss her and forever remember how courageously she struggled with her physical setbacks over the past four years. Kay was predeceased by two sisters, Marie Daniels and Lorna Cavanaugh, and her brother, Joseph Varney. She is survived by her husband, Alvin Lothridge of Augusta; her son, Brian Lothridge and his wife, Jessica, of Center Barnstead, N.H.; her two daughters, Patricia Gay of Augusta and Brenda Ho of San Jose, Calif.; one sister, Lynette Porter of Burlington Junction, Mo.; her four grandchildren, Angela and Alicia Dibenedetti, both of Augusta, Christopher Gay, also of Augusta, and Megan Ho of San Jose, Calif. Friends and relatives are invited to visit 1-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 27, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. After visiting hours, all are welcome to attend a gathering at Angela Dibenedetti's home on Pennmaric Road in Augusta. A celebration of Kay's life will be held at the funeral home at 2 p.m Monday. Burial will follow at the family lot in Richmond Cemetery on Main Street in Richmond.
