Obituary

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Kurt Russell Hanson, 52 of Daytona Beach, passed away July 19, 2010, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Augusta, Maine, on Dec. 29, 1957, to the late Richard H. and Angie L. (Fuller) Hanson. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Janice Henderson. Kurt graduated from Winthrop High School with the class of 1976 and graduated from the former New England Aeronautical Institute in 1978. He worked in the airline industry until he moved to Daytona Beach in 1980. There he worked several jobs from building surf boards and fiberglass boats to running heavy equipment. Kurt finally found his life career as a machinist. He became well-known for his work throughout the Southeast. Kurt loved the Daytona Beach area and all it had to offer. He relished being the tour guide for his visiting relatives and friends. He is survived by his twin brother, Karl Hanson of Thomasville, Ga.; brother Dennis Hanson and his wife, Merrie, of Winthrop; sister Judy Davis and her husband, Al, of The Villages, Fla.; brother-in-law, Larry Henderson of Nichols, N.Y.; and his stepmother, Kay Drinkwater Hanson of Winthrop. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. A private interment will follow at the East Winthrop Cemetery. There will be a gathering at the home of Dennis and Merrie Hanson following the internment. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.khrfuneralhomes.com.
