WINTHROP ? Lafayette Emerson Hatch, 80, passed away at his home Sunday, Jan. 12, 2003. He was born in Weld, Nov. 28, 1922, the son of Ivy and Gertrude (Cochran) Hatch. He married Edith LaPlante in 1953. They lived in Winthrop for the past 40 years. He enjoyed fishing and sightseeing with his wife, Edith, until her passing in 1996. Mr. Hatch was predeceased by his wife; one son, Gary Hatch; one grandson, Bucky Hatch; and one great-grandson, Cody. He is survived by five sons, LeRoy Hatch of Waterville, Keith Hatch of North Jay, Gerald LaPlante of Waterboro, Darwin Hatch of Dixfield and Loren Hatch of Strong; three daughters, Delores Merrill of Houlton, Mavis Castleberry of Lewiston and Darlene Rollins of Lincoln; and 45 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. There will be no visiting hours or funeral service. Mr. Hatch will be buried with his wife, Edith, at Glenside Cemetery, Turkey Lane, Winthrop, in the spring.
