AUGUSTA - Lawrence C. Frye, 67, of Augusta, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2010, at his home. He was born in Rockport Nov. 2, 1942, the son of William and Agatha (Towle) Frye. He grew up in the Camden Rockport area and graduated from Rockport High School. Shortly after high school, he joined the Navy, serving from 1961 to 1965. When he returned home, he served for several more years in the National Guard. Mr. Frye moved to the Augusta area in 1972. He drove a truck for Blue Seal Feeds for more than 35 years but had worked at various jobs since the age of 8. He got involved with Little League baseball in 1974 and served as an umpire, coach, league official, district administrator and Maine state coordinator. He finished his service to them in 2006. He absolutely loved working with kids and family in both baseball and softball. He was one of the original builders of the Linscott Field. Lawrence was also a Mason, a member of the American Legion and was active in the Elks Club. Mr. Frye was predeceased by his first wife, Martha H. Frye in 1990; his brother, William Frye and his sister, Colleen Roberts. He is survived by his wife, Joyce (Clifford) Frye; his sons, Peter Frye and his wife, Lisa, of West Gardiner and Paul Frye and his wife, Malinda, of Augusta; his daughter, Pamela Frye Higbie and her husband, Andrew, of Clinton; a stepdaughter, Stacey Soucy and her fianc?, Edmund Boudreaux, of Augusta; his brother, Donald Frye and his wife, Alice, of Rockport; his sisters, Irene Eaton, of Glen Cove, Jean Jones, of Seminole, Fla., and Florence Fossett and her husband, Bill, of Georgia; a sister-in-law, Esther Frye; his grandchildren, Nicole Lee, Erika Frye, Jaime Frye, Alyssa Higbie, Kennedy Frye, David Frye, Paul Jacob Richmond and Tristin Richmond, and one great-granddaughter, Natalee Sawtelle. Relatives and friends may visit from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. Private interment will be in Rockland.
