AUGUSTA - Lena S. Humphrey, 93, of 2744 North Belfast Ave., formerly of Riverside Drive, died Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta. She was born in Liberty on March 6, 1915, the daughter of Clayborn and Cora (Pease) Stickney. As salutatorian of her graduating class at Liberty High School in 1933, Lena took the leading part of all four of the senior plays. She also won the Silver Cup in prize speaking in her senior year, speaking against the four towns of Liberty, Appleton, Washington and Searsmont (L.A.W.S.). She worked at the Augusta State Hospital and was in charge of the sport shop at D.W. Adams Co. Department Store for five years. She also worked many years at Christie's Restaurant on Riverside Drive, retiring at 62 years of age. Lena enjoyed being outside and enjoyed walking every week, in all kinds of weather, for many years. Mrs. Humphrey was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Arnold G. Humphrey, on June 17, 1993; and also by her 11 brothers and sisters. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. David (Bonnie) Severance, of Augusta, and Brenda Attean, of Bucksport; four grandsons, Jeromy and his wife, Roberta, and Joshua, Jonathan and Josiah Carey; stepgranddaughter Gaila (Severance) Beach; four great-grandsons and four great-granddaughters; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. A private service was held at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 17, in the Father LeClair Memorial Chapel at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta, with the Rev. Thom Blackstone of the Green Street United Methodist Church officiating. Pallbearers were grandsons Jeromy, Joshua, Jonathan and Josiah Carey; son-in-law David Severance; and Tom Beach.
