WINTHROP - Leon L. Bryant, 67, of Winthrop died at his home on Saturday, May 29, 2004, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Dec. 12, 1936, in Readfield, the son of Albion and Annie (King) Bryant. Leon grew up in Readfield, joining the Army at the age of 17. He served in Germany just after World War II. After his military service, Leon worked as a farmer and truck driver for many years. He married Judith Rainey and they had six children. On Valentine's Day 1981, Leon married Gerry Pelton, and they started their new life together. Over the years, Mr. Bryant worked on several farms, drove for the Kennebec Valley Community Action Program and ran his own gravel pit in Windsor. He also worked with his son Lloyd at Bryant Plumbing and Heating. Leon was a member of American Legion Post 40 in Winthrop and the Whitefield Lions Club. He was a man who enjoyed singing and spending time with his family, especially the children. He also enjoyed growing peas, gardening and going to fairs to watch the horse and ox pulling. He was also a man who loved the Lord. Mr. Bryant was predeceased by his parents; his twin brother, Leland; a stepson, Scott Henry Carter; and a sister, Gladys Libby. He is survived by his wife, Gerry; six children, Julee Morrissette Ferenc Nagy of Gilmanton, N.H., Janine Bryant and her partner, Richard Hayford, of Winthrop, Leon Bryant Jr. and his partner, Sandy Moody, of Winthrop, Lloyd Bryant and his wife, Trina, of Wayne, Leslie Bryant of Winthrop, and Jennifer Nadeau and her husband, Aime, of Winthrop; three stepchildren, Gary Carter and his wife, Debra, of Stafford Springs, Conn., Kenneth Carter and his partner, Debbie O'Connor, of Winthrop, and Mark Carter of Los Angeles, Calif.; his siblings, Albion Bryant, Kenneth Bryant and his wife, Mary, Robert Bryant and his wife, Dottie, Ronnie Bryant and his wife, Jo, Midgie Potter and her husband, Buster, and Gloria Clark; his grandchildren, Jennifer Morrissette, Michael and Lucas Randall, Jamie, Kassie, Kallie and Brodie Bryant, Brianna and Brittany Gaudet, Lorin Bryant, Zachary, Casey, Sara, Joey, Adam and Heather Nadeau, and Gary, Dan, Matthew, Caleb and Layla Carter; his great-grandchildren, Ronnie and Natasha Brillon, Mykayla and Lucas Randall, and Brandon Bryant; and his faithful friend, Jewels; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Relatives and friends may visit 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, where a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 2. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 3, at North Wayne Cemetery.
