Lewine Cormier Obituary (1934 - 2008)

VASSALBORO - Lewine T. Cormier, 74, of Vassalboro and formerly of Connecticut, died Monday, June 2, 2008, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, after a yearlong battle with cancer. She was born in St. Francis on Jan. 1, 1934, the daughter of the late Moses and Melvina (Jandreau) Martin. Lewine was born, raised and educated in the Fort Kent area in northern Maine. She later moved to Connecticut, where she was married to Eloi Cormier on Dec. 29, 1956, and where most of her adult life was spent raising their children. She was a loving mother and excellent wife who taught her children to live life to its fullest and for them to recognize that success comes from within. Never uttering a harsh word about anyone, she always found the good in everyone and opened her heart and home to so many friends, family and foster children in her lifetime. Most important to her were her grandchildren and the time she was able to spend with them. They were her life and she was proud of each and every one of them. Lewine was predeceased by two brothers, Lewellyn and Conrad Martin; and a daughter-in-law, Robin Cormier. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Eloi Cormier, of Vassalboro; her two sons, Robert Cormier and his wife, Nancy, of Augusta, and Rene Cormier and his wife, Rose, of Lake Los Angeles; her two daughters, Anita King and her husband, John, of Vassalboro, and Jeanne Cormier and her husband, Raymond Massanti Jr., of Southington, Conn.; one brother, Marc Martin, of Southington; six grandchildren, Ryan Cormier and his wife, Stephanie, of Smithfield, Va., Russ Cormier, of West Palm Beach, Fla., Alan King, of Monroeville, Pa., Stephen King, of North Attleboro, Mass., and James and Joshua Cormier, of Augusta; two great-grandchildren, Russ and Devon Cormier, of West Palm Beach; along with many nieces and nephews. There will be no services in Maine. A memorial celebration of Lewine's life will be held in Connecticut at 11 a.m. on June 21 at Our Lady of Mercy, 19 South Canal St., Plainville, Conn. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made in Lewine's name to the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care, P.O. Box 828, Waterville, ME 04903.
