Obituary

AUGUSTA - Lorraine Laney Harris died Thursday night, January 8, 2004, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta. She was born in Skowhegan, the daughter of Wilfred and Madeline Laney. She graduated from Skowhegan High School in 1945 and was a homemaker most of her life. During Christmas holiday seasons, Lorraine worked at Herrick's in Augusta. She also volunteered in a clinic at MaineGeneral Medical Center (Kennebec Valley Medical Center) and at voting polls on Hospital Street during elections. On March 22, 1947, Lorraine married William Harris. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Lorraine was a caring and thoughtful person who always put the needs of others above her own. She was always there to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. She loved to garden, travel cross-country, take cruises and participate in activities with family and friends. She attended South Parish Congregational Church, Augusta. She will be greatly missed by family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, William Harris, in June 1991; a daughter, Susan Harris, in December 1993; and her brother, Dana Laney. Survivors include her daughter Gail Harris of Augusta; her grandchildren, Janet Dupont and her husband, Bill, of Hallowell, and Dave Blake and his wife, Monique, of Vermont; three great-grandchildren, Owen and Dylan Dupont and Ben Blake; her sisters-in-law, Nancy Ouellette of Canaan and Corinne Laney of Madison; also several nieces and nephews. Private visitation will be held at the convenience of the family. A graveside service will be held in the spring in Toby Cemetery, Canaan, at a date and time to be announced. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 163 Lancaster St., Suite 98R, Portland 04104.
