MANCHESTER - Lt. Col. Albert T. Jamison, 80, of Manchester, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2011, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing at Glenridge in Augusta after a lengthy battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Dementia. Albert was born on July 11, 1930, in Roxbury, the son of Fay and Lavina B. Jamison. He attended local schools and graduated from Mexico High School in 1948. Upon graduation, he went to work at the Oxford Paper Co. in the technical service department. In 1954 he began his distinguished career in law enforcement by joining the Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Department as a game warden, graduating from training school in 1956. In 1957 Albert enlisted in the Maine State Police, attending and graduating from the Maine State Police Academy. During his career with the Maine State Police, he graduated from the FBI National Academy in 1969 and participated in many other trainings and courses in law enforcement. He retired from the Maine State Police in 1983, having held all ranks. From 1983 to 1985 he was employed as a New England state police administrators compact field representative. From 1985 to 1998, Albert was employed as a law enforcement coordinator for the United States Attorney's Office, district of Maine in Portland. In his work with the U.S. Attorney's Office, he worked extensively at all levels of law enforcement including Drug Enforcement Cocaine Task Forces. He retired from this position in 1998. Jamison married Mildred B. Arsenault of Mexico on October 3, 1949. Throughout his law enforcement careers, he and his family resided in several cities throughout Maine including Roxbury, 20 Mile at Pittston Farms, Sangerville, Dover-Foxcroft, Auburn and Manchester. He was predeceased by his parents and his wife Mildred, who died in 2000. Albert is survived by his daughters, Victoria O'Neal and her husband Terry of Manchester, and Catherine Jacobs and her husband Tom of Mount Vernon; a son, Steven Jamison and his wife Marge of Rangeley; eight grandchildren, Melissa Graves and her husband James of Manchester, Adam O'Neal and his wife Carrie of Augusta, Jesse Jacobs and his wife Jennifer of Mount Vernon, Matthew Jacobs and his wife Jeannette of Rangeley, Jana Jacobs and her companion Paul Karkos of New Gloucester, Rebecca Sylvester and her husband Matt of Mount Vernon, Kate Jamison of New Market N.H.., and Krista Jamison of Rangeley; six great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Margaret McQuillen of Manchester, Cora Graves of Manchester, Eli and Gabe Jacobs of Mount Vernon and Connor O'Neal of Augusta; two sisters, Rosalie Chmiel of Hewlett, N.Y., and Rita Cunningham and her husband Walter of Dixfield; one brother, Allan Jamison and his wife Joyce of Dedham; a special friend, John McQuillen of Manchester as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In his spare time, Albert enjoyed fishing and hunting at his camp at Brailey Brook, playing guitar, listening to country music and spending time with family and friends. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, Jan. 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Western Avenue, Augusta. Burial will be at a later date in St. Mary's Cemetery, Manchester. The family wishes to extend a thank you to the staff at Glenridge for their caring and loving support shown to Albert during his stay there.
