AUGUSTA - Madeline Masse Sanborn, 85, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at the Augusta Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Vassalboro on Nov. 2, 1924, the daughter of Ernest and Georgiana (Blouin) Pare. Madeline had worked as a nurse's aide for many years at Augusta Mental Health Institute and later at Augusta General Hospital. She enjoyed working outdoors in her flower gardens and baking for family and friends. She was a member of St. Andrew's Catholic Church. She was predeceased by a son, Paul Masse, in 2001; a daughter, Lillian Smith, in 1975; and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by two sons, George Masse Jr. of Augusta and Donald Masse of Benton; a daughter, Lucille Heverly of Windsor; three brothers, Alphonse Pare of Vassalboro, and Paul Pare and Robert Pare, both of Augusta; a sister, Rita Glidden of Vassalboro; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Visiting will be Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church. Spring burial will occur in Sanford Cemetery, Sabattus.
