WINTHROP - Marc Evan McDonnell, 50, of Winthrop died Aug. 27, 2005, when his airplane went down on the Old Lewiston Road in Winthrop. Marc was born Aug. 12, 1955, in Boston, the son of John and Raymona (Treat) McDonnell. Marc was educated in Stoughton, Mass., graduating from Stoughton High School in 1973. He served in the Army, Special Forces, Green Beret division, for 12 years. He and his wife, Cynthia, met in 1976 and moved to Winthrop in 1983. She enjoyed flying with Marc, who was a pilot for many years. Marc loved people and life. He was intelligent and inquisitive and was an entrepreneur, owning a variety of businesses. He was an avid reader and was especially interested in history, science, and anything to do with the military. He loved Florida and Disney World and dancing. Aviation was his passion. He was a devoted father and grandfather and was everything to his daughters. He loved spending time with his grandsons and spent countless hours catching frogs and turtles and enjoying the natural world with them. His favorite quote was 'Live Well, Laugh Often, Love Much' and he lived his life by it. He had a million dollar smile and generously spread his enthusiasm for living to others. He is survived by his wife, Cynthia McDonnell, of Winthrop; his daughters, Jillian Ocasio of Winthrop and Shannon McDonnell, of Wayne; his grandsons, Evan and Alex Ocasio, of Winthrop; his mother, Raymona Sousa, of Stoughton, Mass.; two sisters, Cathy Carron of Manhattan, N.Y., and Lynne McDonnell-Boyer, of Mansfield, Mass.; two aunts, Gloria Wilcox and her husband, Arthur, of Bridgewater, Mass., and Jane Canning and her husband, Lt. Com. Thomas Canning of St. Mary's, Ga.; and several cousins. A memorial celebration of Marc's life will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, at the Wayne Community Church, with the Rev. Kyung-hee Sa officiating. A small reception will be held at the church following the service. Gifts in his memory may be given to his daughters, c/o Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop.
