HALLOWELL -- Marcia 'Zemmie' Nobis, 94, of Granite Hill Estates, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at Maine General Medical Center in Waterville. She was born on April 21, 1918 in Lynn, Mass., the daughter of A. Roy and Aurilla (Locke) Tarbox. During World War II, 'Zemmie' worked for GE in Lynn, making helicopter parts. She was an avid swimmer and taught all the children in the family and her friends' children to swim. Until recently, she lived during the winter in Vero Beach, Fla. She sang in the Vero Beach Choral Society and church choirs. She also sang in the Winthrop United Methodist Church choir for more than 25 years. She was predeceased by her husband, Arthur Nobis; brothers Roy and Ernest Tarbox; nephews Roy Jr. and Ralph Tarbox; and several cousins. She is survived by her daughter, Carole Ricker, and her husband, Norman, of Winthrop; a niece, Karen Worster, and her husband, Frank, of Mount Vernon; great-nieces Heather Worster and family, Mathew Boucher and her son, Austin Hill, of Bedford, N.H., and Chrissa Worster McIver and her husband, Roger, and daughters Emma and Erin of Brookton; her nephews Ken Tarbox and his wife, Linda, of Sandown, N.H., and The Villages, Fla., Gilbert Tarbox and his wife, Penny, of Carmel, N.Y., and Robert Tarbox and his wife, April, of Gilsom, N.H.; cousin Sylvia (Hall) Tibbetts and her husband, Earl, of Hallowell; and cousin Lynda Locke Leighton and her husband, Coby, and children Maelyn and Bowen of Starks. There will be no visiting or services at this time. A memorial service will be held at a later date in the spring.
