VASSALBORO - Marcia Ann Adell Toto, 42, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 6, 2004, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta surrounded by family and friends. Her spirit, strength, and courage were truly amazing during her brief battle with breast cancer. She was born in Lewiston on Feb. 2, 1962, the daughter of Wendel S. and Joyce (Brown) Adell. Marcia graduated from Maranacook Community School, where she participated in basketball and was a member of the track team. She also graduated from the licensed practical nursing program at Central Maine Vocational Technical Institute in Auburn. She married Daniel Toto Jr. at Hebron Academy Baptist Church on June 5, 1982. After briefly living in Augusta, Marcia and Dan moved to Vassalboro in 1985, where she worked in the nursing field before choosing to stay home and raise her children until all were in school full-time. Only then did she return to the work force as a substitute teacher in Vassalboro and Erskine. When in the nursing field, Marcia was employed at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta; Veterans Administration Medical Center in Togus; Williams Health Care at Glenridge and Greybirch; the office of David Hutchins, DPM; and, most recently, at Bridges in Augusta, working with clients in the community. Marcia dedicated her life to family and friends and volunteered whenever asked, most recently at Vassalboro Food Station. She was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Augusta, active at the Sonshine Nursery School and was a past Girl Scout leader. A loving mother of three, Marcia lived life to the fullest. She enjoyed gardening, camping, car shows, beach trips, movies, sewing, knitting and cooking. She never turned away a request for help and often took the initiative without being asked. Always smiling and optimistic, she would find something positive about most any situation she encountered. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Marcia is survived by her husband, Daniel, and their three daughters, Jennifer Margaret, Anna Elizabeth and Sarah Ann Toto, all of Vassalboro; her parents, Wendel and Joyce Adell, of Readfield; her two brothers, David Adell and his wife, Maribeth, of Gray and Douglas Adell and his wife, Susan, of Lewiston; along with several nieces, nephews, aunts and cousins. Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 6-9 p.m. Friday at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. A celebration of her life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Eastern Avenue, Augusta. Burial will be held at a later date in Cross Hill Cemetery, Cross Hill Road, Vassalboro.
