WINSLOW - Marilyn Marie (Heald) Legassey, 76, passed away at home on Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, surrounded by her daughters, Vanessa and Kimberly; and her fianc?, Rick Ramsdell. She fought a very courageous battle with several types of cancer for many years. Marilyn was a very loving caring and devoted wife and mother, and all who knew her, loved her. Marilyn was born on March 9, 1933, the oldest child of five, to Warren and Sadie (Cole) Heald, of Hallowell. Marilyn graduated from Hall-Dale High School in 1951, where she was very active in the annual 'Hokey Pokey's,' tap dancing and singing groups. She had an absolutely beautiful voice. She sang in the choir at Cox Memorial Church for years. On June 10, 1953, she married Carl David Legassey, Navy retired. They lived all over the United States but spent the majority of their adult life in Pensacola, Fla. Marilyn worked for the Civil Service in Oceanside, Calif., as a switchboard operator. She continued her love of working on switchboards in Florida and at the Augusta General Hospital in Maine, now MaineGeneral Medical Center. Marilyn and Carl returned to Maine in 1992 to help care for their parents. Marilyn was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Carl Legassey; her parents; her sister, Peggy Lampher; and her brother, Richard Heald. She is survived by her four children, Jennifer Muehle, Kimberly Crandall, Vanessa Bourque, and Carl David Legassey II and his wife, Tammie; 11 grandchildren, Sandra, Paul and Sarah Muehle, Samantha McNabb, Curtis Crandall, Meaghan and Brandon Bourque, and Terryn, Arden, Anna and Evan Legassey; and one great-granddaughter, Gabriella Violet Pecoraro Muehle. She is also survived by her brothers, Glendon and David Heald, and 11 nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend its heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Dr. Ronald Hart from Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care; and Michelle Mercier from the Waterville hospice, who provided Marilyn with superb care during her illness. We would also like to publicly thank Kimberly Crandall, who has been a true angel on earth providing home health care 24/7 to both Carl and Marilyn. A committal service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the new Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery Chapel, Mount Vernon Road in Augusta.
