NORTH MONMOUTH ?Marion E. Smith, 84, of Hanson's Wood Road, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002, at Nicholson's Longterm Care and Rehabilitation Center in Winthrop. She was born in North Wayne, July 17, 1918, the daughter of Leigh and Ethel (Gilman) Hanes. She attended Wayne and Winthrop schools. Marion was a homemaker most of her life. She enjoyed cooking and family gatherings. She was an avid reader, who also liked to do needlepoint and puzzles. Marion married Francis Smith, Nov. 9, 1935. She was predeceased by her husband in 1958, a son, George Smith in 1984, a sister, Bertha Wright, half-sister, Emma Smith, and half-brother, Clarence Libby. She was survived by two sons, William Smith of Apopka, Fla., and Edward Smith of North Wayne; four daughters, Patricia Burnham of North Monmouth, Elizabeth Huston of Richmond, Shirley Smith of North Monmouth and Robin Smith of East Monmouth; a sister, Freda Frost of Auburn, and a half-sister, Cora Woodaman of New Hampshire; 19 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop, where a funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 26, with the Rev. Robert Giguere, pastor of the Fellowship Church in Greene, officiating. Burial will be at Monmouth Ridge Cemetery in Monmouth.
