AUGUSTA ? Marjorie L. Simpson, 79, of Augusta, died unexpectedly Monday, March 4, 2002, at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta. She was born in Baltimore, Nov. 16, 1922, the daughter of William T. and Macy (Thorne) Lang. Marjorie graduated from Cony High School and the Rhode Island School of Design and later she married Robert Simpson in Augusta. She was a homemaker in her earlier years, raising three children, of whom she was very proud. She was an art teacher for 17 years in the Augusta area public schools. Marjorie had a zest for life and enjoyed arts, crafts, gardening, playing cards with her friends and family gatherings. She helped decorate the Blaine House and Lithgow Public Library with the Kennebec Valley Garden Club. She played the piano, violin and was taking guitar lessons. She was a member and past president of the Kennebec Valley Garden Club, a member of the Augusta Country Club, and attended South Parish Congregational Church. Her brother, William Lang predeceased her in 1990. She is survived by three sons, Daniel R. Simpson and wife, Valerie, of Winthrop, Thomas E. Simpson and wife, Andrea Lord, of Augusta, and William P. Simpson of Freeport; a sister, Dorothy Turchick and husband, Al, of Latham, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Shane Simpson of Portland, and Libby Hooker and husband, Mike, of Otisfield; two great-granddaughters, Cora and Sadie Hooker, both of Otisfield; several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Relatives and friends may visit from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m Monday, March 11 at Knowton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 12 at the South Parish Congregational Church, with Rev. John Zehring officiating. Spring burial will be in Forest Grove Cemetery.
