Marvin Vorpagel Obituary (1941 - 2010)

READFIELD - Marvin L. Vorpagel, 68, of Readfield died Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, at Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was born in Lyons Township, Wis., July 30, 1941, the son of Lyle and Matilda (Schenkoske) Vorpagel. He grew up in Gillette, Wis., and joined the Navy in 1958. He served from 1958 to 1961. He and his wife, Evie (Miner) Vorpagel, were married Dec. 31, 1962. Mr. Vorpagel worked at Albany Felt from 1961 to 1968, and then went to work for the Maine Department of Transportation, from which he retired, in 2005. He was a 35-year member of the Lions Club, Readfield and then Manchester. He worked as a volunteer for the Litchfield Fair Association for many years. Marvin is survived by his wife, Evie Vorpagel; his father, Lyle Vorpagel and his wife, Anita, of Lake Geneva, Wis.; sons Stephen Vorpagel and his wife, Cathy, and his son, Kyle, and his son, Jeffrey Vorpagel, of Readfield, and Jeremy Vorpagel and his wife, Samantha, and their children, Philip Honas and Keonna Vorpagel, of Whitefield; daughters Susan Bessette and her husband, Marc, and their children, Mitchell and Zachary, of Readfield, Jennifer Peters and her husband, Frank, and their children, Jacob, Joshua, Jayden and Jackson, of Winthrop, and Julie Vorpagel, of Readfield; brother Bruce Vorpagel and his wife, Margaret, of Minneapolis; sisters Corrinne Boelter and her husband, Steve, of Texas, and Janet Kraft and her husband, Greg, of Wisconsin; his good friend, Jim Laflin; and his beloved dog, Sally. A committal service will take place at 1 p.m. on Wednesday in the chapel of the new Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta.
