AUGUSTA - Mary T. Berry, 86, of Augusta died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care at Gray Birch in Augusta. She was born in Augusta on May 6, 1922, the daughter of Harry D. and Lucy (Worthley) Turner. Mary graduated from Cony High School in 1941 and Gates Business School in 1943. She and her husband, Nelson E. Berry, were married Oct. 12, 1945. She worked for the Maine State Library for a number of years and, later, for Kennebec County. Mary was a life member of John McPherson Chapter, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary in Togus. She was also a member of Penney Memorial United Baptist Church. Mary was predeceased by her husband, Nelson E. Berry Sr.; her brothers, Harry W. Turner and Richard R. Turner; her sisters, Florence J. Files and Pauline T. McMurray; and her grandson, Nelson E. Berry III. She is survived by her son, Nelson E. Berry Jr., of Gorham; her sister, Phyllis A. Turner, of Augusta; her grandchildren, Todd N. Berry Sr., of Buxton, and Jaime Berry Stevens, of Hollis; her great-grandchildren, Madeline Stevens and Todd Berry Jr.; along with several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. A funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
