AUGUSTA ? Mildred B. Weeks, 95, died Tuesday, June 11, 2002, at the Maine Veterans' Home in Augusta. She has gone to a greater home, but she left a legacy to her family that will enrich their future and spring warmth and joy in memories. Mildred was born in Embden, Sept. 9, 1906, the daughter of Harlon and Flora (Baker) Boyington. Mildred taught school for more than 40 years in Cornville, Athens, West Athens, Palmyra, Cambridge and West Bath. She never stopped teaching and brought joy to the staff at Maine Veterans' Home as she addressed issues with patients she felt related to 'not doing your school work'. Mildred and her late husband, Fred, raised ponies and she raced them at local fairs. She instilled a love of animals and wildlife to her family through her animals and love of nature. In her spare time you would find her brook fishing often with grandkids. Her sons, Gerald and Donald grew up on the farm with Mildred as mother, teacher and disciplinarian. Her presence will be missed not only by her family but everyone she touched through her life. Mildred was predeceased by her husband, Fred Weeks; her brother, Kenneth Boyington; and four sisters, Ruth Cross, Esther Rinfret, Hazel Tozier and Louise Boyington. She is survived by her two sons, Gerald H. Weeks of Skowhegan, and Donald B. Weeks and his wife, Barbara, of Cape Elizabeth; her daughter, Betty Grant and her husband, Leigh, of Hartland, formerly of Readfield; her sister-in-law, Diana Hinckley of Blue Hill; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 16, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. A committal service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the chapel at the old Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta.
