Augusta - Pearl C. Freeman, 87, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2009 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care, Glenridge Drive, Augusta.
Pearl was born in Van Buren on November 17, 1921, the eldest daughter of the late Rene` and Cora (Lizotte) Cote.
Pearl married the love of her life, Harry Freeman Jr. on December 31, 1941. Soon after, they purchased their family home in Farmingdale. Pearl began her career in the stitching department at R.P. Hazzard Shoe Co. in Augusta, where she worked for over 20 years. She then moved on to become a seamstress at Margaret Smith Co.,in Randolph, where she worked until her retirement. Even after Pearls? retirement, her love of sewing continued on. She created her own sewing room that enabled her to make the most beautiful quilts, bags, dolls and clothing, just to name a few. Many of her numerous hand made items had won her 1st Place blue ribbons at the local agricultural fairs and are still cherished by many.
Pearls talents extended far beyond sewing. She had a passion for flowers, and geraniums were among her favorites. She enjoyed cooking and could cook a meal that would warm any heart. Pearl enjoyed traveling with Harry to many places that included Hawaii, and the site of Pearl Harbor and the Arizona Memorial. They also enjoyed many trips to Atlantic City, Las Vegas, Foxwoods Casino and the Amish country.
She was predeceased by her two sisters Mary ?Rita? Quintal of Lewiston and June Gilman of Farmingdale and a brother Leon P. Cote of Gardiner.
She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 68 years, Harry A. Freeman Jr. of Augusta; their only son Richard H. Freeman and his partner Sonya Trott of Vassalboro; granddaughters Melissa Nimon and her husband Richard of China, Amy Freeman and her partner Kevin Kirkwood of Augusta; great-grandchildren Kyna Wright, Sadi Nimon and Bradley Brochu, along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Those who knew her will remember her smile, laughter and warm heart. She will be deeply missed.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to all who cared for Pearl at Glenridge, where she resided for the last seven years. At Pearl?s request, all funeral services will be private. Burial will be in Forest Grove Cemetery, Augusta.
