Obituary

READFIELD - Raymond Turner Fogg, 83, of Readfield died Sunday, June 24, 2007, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Nursing Care at Gray Birch in Augusta. Ray was born July 24, 1923, in Readfield the son of Samuel W. and Inez (Turner) Fogg. He attended the public schools of Readfield and graduated from Kents Hill School in the class of 1940. He returned to Kents Hill the following year for their Junior College Commercial course and then completed a short course at the machine trades school in Dexter. From there, he went to work in the shipyards in South Portland that were building Liberty Ships during World War II. On returning to Readfield, Ray worked in trucking and assisting his father on the family farm. He married Marion Lewis of Readfield. In 1951, he started to work for Edwin Harriman as a fuel delivery man and, when Mr. Harriman died in 1959, Ray and Marion purchased the business. They operated it as E.N. Harriman Company until their retirement in the early '80s. Ray was a past master of Lafayette Lodge A.F. and A.M., and received his 50-year medal in 1995. He was a 60-year member of the Readfield Grange and a former member of the Readfield Fire Department. Mr. Fogg was predeceased by his wife, Marion; his sisters, Evelyn Fogg Pearson, Marion Fogg Eames and Christine Fogg Wetherington; and his brother Samuel W. Fogg Jr. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Fogg Elvin and Elmer, of Kents Hill; two sons, Jeffrey Fogg of Mount Vernon and Tim Fogg and his wife, Jackie, of Readfield; his close friend, Gloria Clark; his sister-in-law, Barbara Harrington Fogg; along with seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. There will be a graveside service at 11 a.m. Friday, June 29, at Readfield Corner Cemetery, Church Road. A gathering will be held at Ray's home at 154 Fogg Road, following the service. Any donations in Ray's memory may be directed to the Readfield Union Meeting House, P.O. Box 8, Readfield, ME 04355. Arrangements are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop.
