AUGUSTA ? Raymond W. Stephens, 72, of Augusta, died Sunday April 10, 2011 at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation, Graybirch Drive, Augusta. He was born in Dover, New Jersey, Jan. 6, 1939 the son of William E. and Dorothy (Brower) Stephens. Ray grew up and was educated in New Jersey. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1957 to 1961. He moved to Maine, many years ago. He worked for Prouty Ford in Dover-Foxcroft for several years and then for Central Maine Power as a meter installer, retiring in 1994. Mr. Stephens was an avid golfer, enjoying many rounds at Natanis. He also enjoyed reading books. Raymond is survived by his wife, Mary Jean (McClay) Stephens; a son, Jeffrey Stephens and his wife, Lori, of South Carolina; a daughter, Michelle Freitag and her husband, Kurt, of York; stepson, Adam Corey and his partner, Kara Thurlow, of Winslow; a brother, Warren Stephens and his wife, Gloria, of Washington state; a sister, Diane McKenzie and her husband, John, of Pennsylvania and five grandchildren, Nicole Stephens, Michael, Thomas, and John Paul Freitag and Nicholas Michaud. A service with military honors will be held in the chapel of the new Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta, Thursday April 14 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care, Office of Philanthropy, P.O.
