READFIELD - Richard P. Lasselle Jr., 90, died at Heritage Rehabilitation & Living Center in Winthrop on Oct. 20, 2004, after a long illness. He was born Aug. 20, 1914, in Norway, to Richard P. Sr. and Lida (Hutchins) Lasselle. Richard worked several years on a dairy farm, delivering milk; and 26 years as a baker at Augusta State Hospital. He enjoyed the outdoors, boating, fishing and camping, as well as volunteering for Hospice, a food bank and any neighbor who needed help. His indoor pastime was reading and crossword puzzles. He was a member of Readfield United Methodist Church and the Readfield Grange. Richard was predeceased by his wife, Ruth; his sister, Ellen; and two brothers, John and Arthur. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Phyllis of Readfield; two daughters, Nancy Minchin and her husband, Thomas, of Pittston, and Janice Cole of Portland; three brothers, George and his wife, Jean, of Port Charlotte, Fla., Bert and his wife, Margaret, of Palm Harbor, Fla., and Ralph and his wife, Clara, of Schenectady, N.Y.; three sisters, Marjorie Hayden and her husband, Lawrence, of South Paris and Clearwater, Fla., and Mary and Alice Lewis of Gardiner; five grandsons, Donald Swift and his wife, Debra, Lee Swift and his wife, Michel, James and Daniel Swift, and Mark Cole; several nieces and nephews; and a brother-in-law, Arthur Bishop. A celebration of Richard's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at Readfield United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Karen Munson officiating, and burial will follow at East Readfield Cemetery, Route 17, Readfield. Afterward, there will be a gathering at Readfield United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Readfield United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 286, Kents Hill 04349. Arrangements are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop.
