WINTHROP - Robert L. Hodsdon, 75, died Tuesday, March 30, 2004, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation & Nursing Care, Glenridge Drive, Augusta, as a result of complications from Alzheimer's disease. He was born in Winthrop on July 20, 1928, the son of the late Edwin Harvey and Ruth Pearl (Sprague) Hodsdon. Bob was educated in Winthrop schools, graduating from Winthrop High School, and married Betty Prescott on July 2, 1949. He was employed by Wadsworth & Woodman in Winthrop, which later became Inmont, from August 1946 until the mill closed in April 1974; and Carleton Woolen Mills, also in Winthrop, from November 1975 until his retirement in January 1992. Bob was a member of the Knights of Pythias in Monmouth and the United Church of Monmouth, and was a former member of the Monmouth Fish & Game and former president and activist for UPIU Local 1235 of Winthrop. Bob was very active in square dancing and the Squiretown Squares. He also coached youth baseball and he and his wife, Betty, were instrumental in establishing the first special education class in Winthrop. He loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much, and they will all miss him dearly. Bob was predeceased by his wife, Betty, on Nov. 15, 1999. He is survived by his two sons, Bruce Hodsdon and his wife, Marguerite, of Port Clyde, and David Hodsdon of Monmouth; his three daughters, Becky Hodsdon of Monmouth, Cathy Leonard and her husband, David, of Winthrop, and Dawn Hodsdon of Monmouth; one brother, Ronald Hodsdon and his wife, Joan, of Monmouth; two sisters, Beverly Kelley and Betty Tilton, and her husband, Phil, both of Winthrop; five grandchildren, Jennifer Hodsdon, Danielle Brown and her husband, Mike, Jamie Hodsdon, Emily Leonard, and Michael Leonard; two great-grandchildren, Soleil MacDonald and Nicholas Brown; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends and relatives are invited to visit 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at United Church of Monmouth, with the Revs. Gerhardt Miller and Ira Ellis officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in Glenside Cemetery, Turkey Lane, Winthrop.
