Obituary

AUGUSTA - Roderic 'Hunk' Monroe Carr Sr., 89, of Augusta passed away peacefully Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at home. Roderic was born Aug. 24, 1919, in Augusta, the second son of Rinaldo E. and Marion (Jordan) Carr. A 1938 graduate of Cony High School, he served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He owned and operated Carr's Plumbing and Heating in Augusta for many years, then did plumbing and heating for the state of Maine. Mr. Carr was a 32nd-degree Mason and Scottish Rites, was active in the Kora Shrine and was a past commander of Boynton-Webber Post, American Legion, in South China. Roderic married Ida Christian Carr in May 1943. They had two children, Roderic M. Carr Jr. of Raymond and Marilyn J. Tucker of Colorado Springs, Colo. Ida predeceased him in November 1970. He was also predeceased by two brothers, Roger J. Carr and Sherwood E. Carr; and one sister, Elaine R. McKinnon. In addition to his son and daughter, Roderic is survived by his brother, Rinaldo E. Carr Jr. and his wife, Beverly, of Holden, Mo.; three sisters, Marguerite Andrews and her husband, Charles, of Augusta, Bethyl House of Augusta and Mayetta LeVasseur of Fall River, Mass.; a sister-in-law, Edith R. Carr of Milford, Del.; two granddaughters; two great-grandsons; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Relatives and friends may visit 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 1 p.m. Friday. Burial will follow at Forest Grove Cemetery in Augusta.
