WINTHROP - Roland F. Jones, 72, of Winthrop died Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at MaineGeneral Medical Center Thayer Unit, Waterville. He was born Feb. 4, 1933, in Rockland, the son of Harold W. and Melvina (Marshall) Jones. Roland attended schools in Monmouth and entered the Army in 1950, serving until 1953. He married Jane Currier on Sept. 10, 1955, in Winthrop. Mr. Jones worked in construction for 45 years. He owned and operated RFJ Construction. He was an outgoing person who enjoyed meeting and talking to people. Roland enjoyed fishing and hunting and especially loved flying. He owned his own plane, a Cessna Cherokee, for a number of years. Roland was a member of American Legion Post 40, Winthrop, and served as quartermaster of VFW Post 9526. Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Jane A. Jones of Winthrop; a son, Ron Jones and his wife, B.J., of Lewiston; a daughter, Maureen Jones of Waterville; sisters Bernice Fazzina of New Britain, Conn., and Beverly Small of Stetson; brothers Harold Jones Jr. of Monmouth and Robert Jones of California; six grandchildren, Lacie Burgess, Christopher Jones, Adam Jones, Mark Jones, Chad Jones and Ben Plante; two great-granddaughters, Grace and Katie Burgess; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles; and his cat, Sadie. Relatives and friends may visit 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. Saturday at Roberts Funeral Home. A committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the chapel at the Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road in Augusta. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Roland's memory to MaineGeneral Medical Center, 3 North, P.O. Box 828, Waterville 04903.
