AUGUSTA - Rose Kate Buxton, of Augusta, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 26, 2004, with her children at her side. She was born on Aug. 31, 1921, in Newcastle, New Brunswick, the daughter of Ira and Lula (Ritchie) Burley. Attending local schools, Rose went on to Montreal General Hospital and graduated as a registered nurse in 1943. She practiced in a variety of nursing fields and hospitals, including Fort Fairfield General and Loring Air Force Base, and retired from the Togus Veterans Affairs hospital in 1989. She married Jerre Libby Buxton Sr. on Aug. 20, 1949, and became a U.S. citizen on April 2, 1952. Rose and Jerre miraculously put their three children, Jerre Libby Jr., Linda Lou and John Edward through college. She considered it one of her life's greatest accomplishments. Known for her generosity and work ethic, Rose touched many lives. She was predeceased by her husband, Jerre Libby Buxton Sr.; and her six brothers, John 'Jack,' Douglas, Arthur, George, Malcolm and Neil Burley. She is survived by her children, Jerre Buxton Jr. and his wife, Ann, of Augusta, Linda Moulton and her husband, Wilder, of Manchester, John Buxton and his wife, Priscilla, of Augusta; grandchildren Benjamin, Amy, Jillian and Hali Buxton and Jonathan Moulton; and a brother, Roland Burley of Thunder Bay, Ontario. There will be no visiting hours. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. June 5 at South Parish Congregational Church, Augusta, with the Rev. Bruce Forbes officiating. Burial will be in Kling Cemetery, Augusta. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Rose's name to Barbara Bush Children's Hospital, Maine Medical Center, Portland.
