FARMINGDALE - Russell L. Nisbet Sr., 84, of Farmingdale died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at the Maine Veterans' Home in Augusta. He was born June 21, 1920, in North Vassalboro, the son of Ray and Marion (Muir) Nisbet. He was educated in Augusta and graduated from Cony High School. Russell worked at Bath Iron Works prior to World War II. He married Glenda Rice of Gardiner in December 1942. He entered the service and served in the Army Air Corps as an aerial engineer, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. He spent time in the China-India-Burma theater, where he was awarded the Air Medal for flight time over 'The Hump.' When Russell returned from the war, he went to work for Central Maine Power Co., where he retired as superintendent of hydro operations after 36 years. He was awarded membership in the Maine Society of Professional Engineers for his contribution to hydro power generation. Mr. Nisbet was a life member of the Augusta Masonic Lodge and a member of the Body of Scottish Rites. He was a member of the Granite City Grange, where he entertained the membership with his violin talents. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and hunter, as well as a wood craftsman. He also built and repaired golf clubs. Russell is survived by his wife, Glenda Nisbet; two sons, Russell Nisbet Jr. and his wife, Jennifer, of New Harbor, and Orville Nisbet and his wife, Laurie, of Lincolnville Beach; along with several grandchildren. There will be no public service. Arrangements are in the care of Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta.
