WATERVILLE ? Ruth M. Batchelder, 85, of Woodlands of Waterville and formerly of Farmingdale, died unexpectedly Saturday, July 5, 2003, at Inland Hospital, Waterville. \r\r\n\r\r\nShe was born in Gardiner on July 15, 1917, the only child of Elmer and Emma Tillson of Farmingdale. She graduated from Cony High School, where her mother taught, and later attended nursing school. \r\r\n\r\r\nAfter graduation, Ruth worked as a nurse in the Waterville area. She lived in Farmingdale, was married to Phillip Batchelder and had four children. \r\r\n\r\r\nShe owned and operated her own residential care facility in Farmingdale for 30 years before retiring in 1984. \r\r\n\r\r\nRuth enjoyed reading books and had a love for animals. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Hallowell and the Order of the Eastern Star. \r\r\n\r\r\nMrs. Batchelder was predeceased by her first son, Phillip; and two daughters, Shirley and Linda. \r\r\n\r\r\nShe is survived by her son, Richard Batchelder and his wife, Jeanette, of Delray Beach, Fla.; a grandson, Brandon Batchelder and his wife, Larisa, of Augusta; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Batchelder of Montville; and a great- grandson, Dylan Batchelder. \r\r\n\r\r\nAt her request, visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 68 Second St., Hallowell. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 9, at the Hallowell Cemetery, Hallowell, with the Rev.
