Belgrade - Steven W. Chaput, 57, died unexpectedly on Friday April 7, 2006 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta. He was born in Bath on February 18, 1949 the son of Leo and Edna (Brawn) Chaput. Steve was a graduate of Brunswick High School and in 1971 graduated from Paul Smiths College in New York. He was a member of the Augusta Elks; an EMT and Lieutenant with the Belgrade Fire Department, and Lieutenant and Safety Officer with Belgrade Fire and Rescue. Steve was a First Class Lineman and most recently was working for On Target in Portland. He enjoyed cooking and deer hunting with his friends at camp in Enfield. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother Gerald Chaput. He is survived by his wife Laura Chaput of Belgrade; a son Steve C. Chaput; daughter Christina Chaput Lavallee, and a grandson Kolbie-Tyler Lavallee, all of Belgrade. He is also survived by his nephews Randy Chaput and Troy Chaput, and nieces Tracey Chaput French and Terri Carlton Adams. There will be no visiting hours. A graveside memorial service will be held 11am, Saturday April 15, at Pine Grove Cemetery, Belgrade. Arrangements are in the care of Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church St., Augusta.
