Sylvia Hudson AUGUSTA--Sylvia Hudson 71, died unexpectedly on January 2, 2016 in Augusta, Maine. She was born in Brooklyn, New York on December 8, 1944, the daughter of Benjamin and Dorothy Ehrlich. Upon graduating from Parsons School of Design with a degree in Architectural/Interior Design, Sylvia moved to Boston where she worked for the Boston Redevelopment Authority; launching a career in community development and affordable housing. Sylvia relocated to Maine in 1966 where she started a family and continued her career path; working for a number of municipalities throughout central Maine. She was passionate about historic preservation, having publicly and personally restored many historic homes. She was instrumental in restoring historic Hallowell and freelanced as an architectural and interior designer. Sylvia remained active in the community through her volunteer work on local historic preservation boards and planning commissions. In totality she believed in preserving the past and putting other people first. Over her last nine years of her life Sylvia worked tirelessly as an advocate for adults with disabilities throughout central Maine as a community integration worker. Throughout her life she loved all things related to gardening and the beauty of architectural landscaping; installing and tending many gardens throughout her life. Sylvia is survived by her sons Scot Hudson (Falmouth, ME) and Seth Hudson (Eau Claire, Wisconsin), his wife Beth Martin and their two children Elliot and Parker, as well as her sister Gwen Cullinane (Florida), nephew Ian Medoro (Connecticut) and niece Marisa Hart (Texas) and their respective children. She was beloved Nana Syl to her two grandchildren and will be deeply missed and remembered fondly as the Nana who loved creative play and sparked adventure and mischief in her grandsons. A private celebration of life will be held by immediate family.
