Synthia Ware Obituary (1940 - 2010)

AUGUSTA - Synthia Marie Ware, 69, of Augusta died Sunday, March 21, 2010, at Maine Medical Center in Portland after a brief illness. She was born in Gardiner on July 30, 1940, the daughter of Raymond C. and Lillian M. (Sidelinger) Rollins. Synthia attended Hallowell and Augusta schools, graduating from Cony High School in 1959. She was employed as a food-service worker in the Augusta schools' nutrition program for 20 years, after which she retired to be a homemaker and care giver. She also was employed with Bell Shops Ladies and Children's Clothing Store and State Street Cinemas, both in Augusta. Synthia was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother and will long be remembered for her love and compassion for others. She was an avid collector of Boyd's Bears, resin, plush and porcelain dolls. She also donated her time as a den mother for Cub Scout Pack 608 and was a volunteer worker with the Augusta East Little League concessions. She also enjoyed her yearly trips to St. Augustine, Fla., and was a member of the Red Hat Society. In recent years, she enjoyed traveling to watch her granddaughter's softball and field hockey games around the state. She was predeceased by her father; her loving husband of 50 years, Kenneth C. Ware; and a son, Stephen S. Ware. Synthia is survived by her mother, Lillian M. Rollins, of Pittston; her son, Kevin Ware and his wife, Stephanie, of Holden; her granddaughter, Kayla Marie, of Holden; her brother, Robert C. Rollins, of Windsor; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and aunts. She will be sadly missed by those who knew her dearly, especially her special granddaughter; her three special grandnieces, Ashley, Alyssa and Jessica; along with her adopted daughter and grandchildren, Debbie, Darcy and Jared; and special longtime friends, Gladys, Gloria, Joanne and Roberta. Family and friends may visit from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 25, at Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta, where a celebration of Synthia's life will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Committal services will be held graveside at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 26, at the old Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Civic Center Drive, Augusta.
