WINTHROP - Theodule 'Ted' Philippon, 95, of Winthrop died on Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at his home in Winthrop. Ted was born on Oct, 7, 1910, in St. Evariste, Quebec, the son of Isadore and Adelia (Nadeau) Philippon. He grew up in Canada and moved to Winthrop when he was 19 years old. On May 30, 1940, he married Lauretta Gosselin of Augusta. Ted worked as a lumberjack and painted houses until he went to work for Bonafide Mills, where he was a supervisor for many years until the mill closed in the early 1960's. He then went to work for Inmont Corporation until it closed several years later. After that, Ted worked for D & D Realty, where he made many friends; he retired at the young age of 93. Ted loved to fish and hunt and always had a garden. He enjoyed making his own maple syrup and even made his own stove and container to boil the sap. He loved to putter in his shed and could fix just about anything. He was an incredible story teller, captivating and entertaining his family and friends for hours with stories about his life. Memories of life growing up on the farm in Canada, his lumberjack adventures, and much more have been passed on to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren because of his love of story telling. He was a lifelong member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Winthrop and was an usher/collector there for many years until he became too ill in December 2003 to continue. He also was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Men's Club for many years. He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years, Lauretta (Gosselin) Philippon in 1994. He was the last remaining Philippon sibling, having been predeceased by five brothers and four sisters. He will be deeply missed by his son, Raymond D. Philippon, and his wife, Janice, of Winthrop; his daughters, Jeannette B. Latulippe and Dianne A. Lajoie, both of Winthrop; seven grandchildren, Kenneth Latulippe and his companion, Kathy Eastman, of Winthrop, Christine Bragg of Denver, Paul Lajoie and his wife, Michelle, of Yarmouth, Therese Plummer of Palermo, Marie Strout of Clinton, Raymond D. Philippon II and his wife, Sue, of Winthrop, and Jennie Alejandro of Kiowa, Colo.; nine great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Brianna, Mathew and Madison Latulippe of Winthrop, Jordon and Connor Lajoie of Yarmouth, Tori and Dana Plummer of Palermo and Hunter Strout of Clinton; and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may visit from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 23, at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with the Rev.Brian Blanchette, Celebrant, Lake Street, Winthrop.
