Obituary

WINTHROP - Valerie Tainter Carr, 37, of Bangor and formerly of Winthrop, died unexpectedly Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at her home in Bangor. She was born in Augusta on Feb. 2, 1971, the daughter of Donald and Carol Tainter. She grew up in Winthrop, graduating from Winthrop High School in 1989. Valerie had a strong interest in music. She was active in musical productions at school and sang in the choir at the Congregational Church. She also accompanied the high school chorus and enjoyed playing piano and organ at the church. She appeared in a Gaslight Theater production of Cinderella and participated in other endeavors. During her teen years, she volunteered during the summers at the Theater at Monmouth. Valerie is survived by her mother; her children, Andrew, Ian and Elizabeth; her sisters, Connie Hubley and her husband, Lee, of Winthrop, Joy Mathews of Ithaca, N.Y., and Diane McLaughlin; her brothers, Bruce Mathews and his wife, Dawna, of Whitefield, Don Tainter Jr. of Boston, Mass., and Scott Tainter and his wife, Leslie, of Livermore Falls; along with aunts, uncles and cousins. There will be a memorial celebration of her life to be held graveside at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, at Glenside Cemetery on Turkey Lane in Winthrop, followed by a time of remembrance at the Winthrop Grange on Old Lewiston Road. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations for her children be sent c/o Connie Hubley, 714 Mount Pisgah Road, Winthrop, ME 04364. Arrangements are in the care of Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop.
