Obituary

HALLOWELL - Virginia W. Fox, 80, of Hallowell, passed away at MaineGeneral Medical Center on Dec. 26, 2003, following a long illness. She was born July 17, 1923 in Old Town, the daughter of the former Sheriff of Kennebec County, Charles A. Watts, and Kathlyn (Leclair) Watts. A 1940 graduate of Cony High School, Virginia graduated from Gates Business College in 1941. Winters found her in Naples, Fla., enjoying life around the pool. Summers were spent with her family and friends on Cape Cod and her beloved Maine. Virginia will long be remembered for her great sense of humor, her candor, and her love and pride of her grandchildren. Virginia was predeceased by her husband, Bradford Fox, and her sister, Dorothy Watts Reed. She is survived by her two sons, John C. Sawyer of Weld and Charles W. Sawyer, and his wife, Susan Forbes Sawyer, of Marston Mills, Mass.; five grandchildren, John C. Sawyer Jr., of Montclair, N.J., Sherry L. Sawyer of Danbury, Conn., and Katie K., Brindy A., and Allison L. Sawyer, all of Phoenix, Ariz.; her niece, Deborah Reed Hazel of Marblehead, Mass.; nephews, Richard E. Reed Jr. of Gorham, N.H. and Bradford J.W. Reed of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and grandnephews, Corey Reed Hazell and Jeffrey J. Hazell, both of Marblehead, Mass. Relatives and friends are welcome to call from 1-4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 29, at Knowlton & Hewins Funeral Home, 1 Church St., Augusta., where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, with Rev. Mike Gendreau officiating. Committal prayers and burial will take place in the spring at St. Mary's Cemetery in Manchester. www.khrfuneralhomes.com
